			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Nürburgring is a motorsport complex around the village of Nürburg, Germany. It features a modern Grand Prix race track built in 1984, and a much longer old North loop track which was built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains. It is located about 70 kilometres (43 mi) south of Cologne, and 120 kilometres (75 mi) northwest of Frankfurt. The old track was nicknamed The Green Hell by Jackie Stewart and is widely considered the toughest, most dangerous and most demanding purpose-built racing circuit in the world. Originally, the track featured four track configurations: the 28.265 kilometres (17.563 miles) long Gesamtstrecke  (&#8220;Whole Course&#8221;), which in turn consisted of the 22.810 km (14.173 mi) Nordschleife (&#8220;Northern Loop&#8221;), and the 7.747 km (4.814 mi) Südschleife  (&#8220;Southern Loop&#8221;). There also was a 2.281 km (1.417 mi) warm-up loop called Zielschleife  (&#8220;Finish Loop&#8221;) or better known as Betonschleife, around the pit area.  Between 1982 and 1983 the start-finish area was demolished to create a new GP-Strecke, and this is currently used for all major and international racing events. However, the shortened Nordschleife is still in use, for racing, testing and public access.</p>

<p>Nürburgring is arguably the most popular most demanding and also longest track for road-car track-days, magazine tests, prototype testing and race events. For car manufacturers , setting a good time in this circuit is vital because it is a benchmark for all the makers.</p>

<p>Created by American sculptor Alexander Calder for his friend Herve Poulain, the BMW 3.0 CSL became the first piece of art of an exclusive and unique collection. Calder’s design of the BMW 3.0 CSL was the first Art Car ever, and one of his last works of art before he died in 1976.</p>

<p><strong>BMW 3.0 CSL &#8211; Frank Stella 1976 </strong></p>
<p>The second BMW Art Car was created by Frank Stella, an American artist and a passionate motor racing fan, who used a black and white square grid pattern taking inspiration from the technical graph-paper. He painted a BMW 3.0 CSL coupé in 1976.</p>

<p><strong>BMW 320i &#8211; Roy Lichtenstein 1977</strong></p>
<p>In 1977 Roy Lichtenstein turned a BMW 320i into a piece of his art that was driven by Poulain and Mignot at Le Mans 24-hour race and finished 9th overall and first in class. When Lichtenstein was drafting his Art Car, he spent a long time thinking about all the things that happen to a car. The result of this critical examination of the car is an amazing blend of aerodynamic qualities on the one hand and artistic skill on the other.</p>

<p><strong>BMW M1 &#8211; Andy Warhol 1979</strong></p>
<p>The fourth BMW Art Car, a BMW M1, was created in 1977 by the Pop Art legend Andy Warhol who, unlike the previous artists, worked directly on the full-scale vehicle and painted the car himself. For Andy Warhol to paint an automobile seems natural. His studio was known as a factory and his greatest fame came from portraying Campbell&#8217;s Soup cans.</p>

<p>In 1982 Austrian painter Ernst Fuchs created the fifth BMW Art Car, a 635 CSi. He took his inspiration from a dream he had when he was 5 years old.</p>

<p><strong>BMW 635CSI &#8211; R. Rauschenberg 1986</strong></p>
<p>The Rauschenberg BMW 635 CSI Art Car &#8211; the sixth addition to BMW&#8217;s collection of 15 Art Cars &#8211; is the first in which the artist used photographic methods to transfer images (including images of famous classical paintings) to the car. Rauschenberg extended his use of Art Car motifs in his six-part, 1988 &#8220;Beamer&#8221; series &#8211; presented as transparent films on enameled aluminum and using his trademark collage techniques. The paintings will be offered for sale from the artist&#8217;s private collection.</p>

<p>At the premiere of the 17th BMW Art Car Jeff Koons unveiled and signed his car in front of 300 international VIP guests on June 1 in the Centre Pompidou, one of the world’s most prestigious cultural institutions for modern and contemporary art. <p>The smell of petrol likes to lots of people, there is something that gives its distinctive odour that some of us love. However, don’t spend too much time sniffing petrol since it is  highly toxic. It is composed of benzene, ethylbenzene, xylene, toluene and other hydrocarbons. All those chemicals are hazardous for your health. Intoxicating yourself through the inhalation of petrol can cause severe physical, cognitive, and psychological impairment, particularly due to the role it plays in the selective degeneration of deep white matter and cerebellar structures.</p>

<h3>Going back to the question, so why some people love the smell of petrol?</h3>
<p>After having done some research I haven’t found any consistent fact. The only thing that can be said is that is a matter of taste. Some people love it, some people hate it. <p>This blog was developed by Marc Espolet with the aim of learning through reading, finding more information and then posting it. We we’ll feel proud of <a href="http://www.petrolsmell.com/">www.petrolsmell.com</a> if you, the reader, also learns. We will put all our effort to make quality posts, trying not to fall in the same market as other blogs are in. Our car blog has a big and clear categories bar in the main page, that is to make easier for the user to find older but still interesting posts. In a future there is a plan to make a forum adjoined to this automotive blog. Some of the categories of this blog include car manufacturers, industry, the things that happen behind the scenes, technology reviews, some news, motorshows, motorsport, funny, challenges, makers, office, reviews and test drives, simulators, historical cars, green technology, future&#8230;</p>
